Female Leaders – and Attendees – Are Making Their Mark on Meetings and IncentivesFebruary 19, 2019
I just finished reading the lead article in the February issue of MeetingsNet, a digital magazine and website for planners of association and corporate events. The article notes that for the first time, every major association that serves the meeting and incentive industry is being led by a woman. MeetingsNet interviewed each woman about her path to leadership, and the issues each one feels is most important to our industry right now. You can find the article here: https://www.meetingsnet.com/association-conventions-and-expos/women-influence-amanda-armstrong-cmp
Having women occupy the chairperson’s role at Meeting Professionals International, Professional Convention Management Association, American Society of Association Executives, and the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence at the same time is a pretty cool thing. Their perspectives will absolutely help their association members do a better job of creating satisfying meetings and events for all their attendees; what’s more, the female leaders’ perspectives will also help suppliers who service meetings and incentives, like us at AIC Hotel Group.
As more women travel to meetings and also qualify for incentive travel awards, we know that the hospitality experience must keep evolving to reflect their distinct needs and preferences. For instance, the spa component has become a big element at our properties in eastern and western Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Miami, not just for straight incentive programs but even for business-heavy meetings. So besides specific treatments that women prefer, there’s now a greater emphasis on practices such as yoga and meditation, and on outdoor spaces where such sessions can take place. We’ve also refined our food and beverage offerings, with lighter main dishes being offered as well as interesting mixology that produces locally-inspired cocktails.
We will continue to adjust our properties’ offerings based on our clients’ demographic information and their attendees’ feedback, so that we hit the mark for each event and have everyone go home feeling appreciated, feeling refreshed, and full of lasting memories.
